Mama Says Om - Odyssey
Odyssey: (a) an epic poem by the Greek poet Homer which describes the exploits of the mythical hero Odysseus as he attempted to return home after the Trojan wars; (b) a long interval of wandering and adventures filled with trials, tribulations and insights; (c) a long voyage; (d) a vision quest or quest of the spirit; (e) the journey to enlightenment.
It's the journey we are all taking together through this world, in this lifetime and many others - one which began long ago when our essential matter danced its way into existence on a faraway star. Ours is a winding road of climbs and descents, twistings and turnings. There are ordeals and testings aplenty, family and friends to walk along with and surprises waiting around every bend. There are gifts and boons, lots of them.
My own road is bounded by hedgerows and old trees, and it makes its slow way through copses and spinneys, heights and gorges, sunlit fields and orchid bogs. There are wonderful views, and the light is entrancing, especially in early morning and at sunset. Maybe, just maybe, there is enlightenment waiting for me/us somewhere up ahead on the trail. In the immortal words of J.R.R. Tolkien, "the road goes ever on and on. . ."
Written for the adventurous mamas at Mama Says Om.

Well, all that and I didn't say a word about the potholes, the bumps and the places where flash floods have washed the road out entirely. Emaho!!!
